We just bought a “camp”on Old Ammons-Stephensport Rd right at the end of the bridge Lily flies off. Imagine my surprise when doing research on our new vacation spot that there is a book about it! Bought it…just finished it. Absolutely love it. I now am so anxious to look for these places in our new town. Our lot is exactly opposite the beautiful old home across the river in Rome. Even before I read the book, I thought it probably used to be a bed and breakfast or inn for the steamers. I can just see the fancy ladies and gents embarking onto this bank and going into the inn for a rest. Also there is a large, tall brick house on 144 between Stephensport and Highway 60. I bet it has a story too.

That’s so amazing, Janet! So glad you enjoyed the book. The town and the characters in the story are dear to my heart. Stephensport looks so different now. Fires, floods, and the railroad moving the maintenance shop changed it so much you’d never know it was a booming town. It’s still lovely, though, and the people there today are delightful.

I read up on it. Fires and then the flood finished it I guess. So sad. I have been many places. It is one of the most beautiful I have seen. We love watching the townoats and barges go by as we work on our property
